The New Jerusalem – Revelation 21:9-22:5

by Jim Jamison

On the night before His death, the Lord Jesus Christ made a wonderful promise to all who believe in Him (John 14:1-3). The “Father’s house” Jesus referred to is the New Jerusalem, where God will live with His people forever. It is the present heaven where God dwells with the Holy angels, and where the redeemed go when they die. As the vision of the New Jerusalem unfolds in Revelation 221:9-22:5, history as we know it has ended, and biblical time is no more. John and his readers are transported to the eternal state. Having described the fearful eternal destination of those who have rejected the salvation offered to them through the atoning work of Christ, viewed as the “Lake of Fire”. The vision of John takes us to the blissful eternal resting place of the redeemed. Because it is the capital ciy of heaven and the link betweeen the new heaven and the new earth, the New Jerusalem is central to the vision and is described in far more detail than the rest of the eternal state. Examining these verses reminds us of the great length that the Lord is going to prepare for us a wonderful place of … READ MORE

Jesus’ preparation for our arrival – John 14:2

by Jim Jamison

Just think, a part of the reason Jesus died, buried, and rose again, was to prepare this place for us. Jesus tells the disciples in John 14:2 that He was going to prepare a place for them, and in saying this He was giving us an understanding of His sacrifice also. We forget that all that God has done through the redemptive History of mankind is to prepare a place where we would find peace and rest, and be able to fellowship eternally without sin! This is not a place for us to see (like a vacation) it is a place for us to enjoy and use. God has always prepared a place for his people:1. For Adam, He prepared a garden (Genesis 2)2. For Abraham, He prepared a country (Genesis 12) 3. For Israel, He prepared a land (Deuteronomy 29:10-15)4. For His people, He has prepared a home (John 14:2-3)Jesus shed His blood in preparation for the comfort that He will provide to those who will trust that sacrifice for their salvation. Consider, today, the privilege that you have in knowing that Jesus is preparing a dwelling place to provide you rest and joy for all eternity.… READ MORE

What does our dream home look like? – John 14:2

by Jim Jamison

What does your dream home look like? Jesus said in John 14:2, “In My Father’s house are many mansions…” The Greek word here for “mansions” is the word “monay” which is a dwelling place. These places which the Lord is speaking is not pictured as a separate building, as if heaven were a giant housing tract. Rather the picture is that of a father building additional rooms onto his house for his sons and their families. In modern terms the dwelling places might be pictured as rooms or apartments in the Father’s spacious house. The emphasis is on intimacy. Revelation 21:3 tells us this is a place where “the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people and God Himself will be among them.” The place the Lord is preparing for those who follow Him is a place of dazzling beauty according to Revelation 21:9-17, Just think, a part of the reason Jesus died, buried, and rose again, was to prepare this place for us! This place is not for us to see (like a vacation – it is for us to enjoy and use. The Father’s house is a … READ MORE
