The black horse of famine – Revelation 6:5-6

by Jim Jamison

In the United States we currently do not know the meaning of famine. Hunger to us, often means that we have skipped a meal. Many of us know nothing of the realities of the depression era, with rampant inflation, and scarce commodities. However, according to Revelation 6:5-6 the third seal, and third horseman of the apocalypse, brings famine. This is the logical consequence of worldwide ware as food supplies are destroyed and those involved in food production are killed. Throughout the Bible God has used famine as a means of judgement in the past, but this will be the most devastating famine in the history of mankind. We take food and plenty for granted in our country, seldom if ever do we have need of want or necessity. We are reminded here that what we enjoy in America is a direct result of the grace and mercy of God. We do not deserve what we have, and we seem to get what we do not deserve. We must never live in a sense of entitlement with what God has allowed us to enjoy, instead we need to grow in humble appreciation for God’s blessing and mercy. The day will come … READ MORE

The red horse of Revelation 6:4

by Jim Jamison

Mankind’s bent leans toward war! As the Lamb of God breaks the second seal a red horse goes forth. God’s judgement descends and the short-lived, false peace led by the leadership of the antichrist dissolves in a blood holocaust. John notes that this rider was granted to take peace from the earth. All that happens will be under God’s sovereign control. He allows the false peace, and then He ends it and brings war on the earth, to demonstrate to the world that true peace will only come through the Prince of Peace. It will be demonstrated that the Antichrist will be as skillful at war as he was at promoting the false peace. Daniel 8:24 describes his career as a warrior: “He will destroy to an extraordinary degree and prosper and perform his will; he will destroy mighty men and the holy people.” Why is this important to know? It is a reminder to those of us who follow the Lord that, first or all, Because of the sinfulness of mankind, we will seek to “lord our power” over others. whether that is seen in bullying that takes place in school, workplace, or governmental authorities or the aggression we … READ MORE

The rider on a white horse – Revelation 6:1-2

by Jim Jamison

“WORLD PEACE!” I remember as a young boy watching the Miss America and Miss Universe pageants and as they questioned the contestants about their future dreams, they always said that their goal was “world peace.” Unfortunately, that is an impossibility in a sin cursed world. At best, we can have the illusion of peace, and that is what we see as the first of 7 seals are opened in Revelation 6:1-2, “I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” (v2). This rider wears a “stephanos,” (a crown given as a prize) not a “diadem” (a royal crown). It is important to understand that this crown was given to the rider by the one who gave the scroll to Christ (God – Revelation 5:1). Before the terrors of the tribulation break loose and lead to the battle of Armageddon there will come a period of peace. But it will be a deceptive peace, as the world is lulled into a false sense of security followed by war, famine, and death. The world’s desperate desire for international peace will serve as … READ MORE
