set them apart for Christ -1 Corintians 7:14

by Jim Jamison

Timothy’s Mom and grandma, not only pointed him to Christ (2 Timothy 1:5) but they also set him apart for Christ (1 Corinthians 7:14). As parents we are to recognize that the children placed in our families, are not ‘OUR CHILDREN” we are given a stewardship responsibility to raise those children to serve God with their lives. This does not mean that they have to go into vocational ministry (although that may happen), rather it means that they need to understand that their lives belong to God. As parents that also means, that we need to allow God to work in their lives in His timetable not ours! With our actions we need to do this by our quiet example, walking consistently and wisely in our world (1 Peter 3:1). With our words we must encourage them that God has gifted them in special ways (1 Corinthians 12:11), remind them that God only asks them to do their job! And with our hearts we are to pray for them daily (Philippians 1:3-4). We MUST remember – Prayer is not our last resort, it is, and must be our first priority! Happy Mother’s Day – 2 Timothy 3:14-16

by Jim Jamison

There are two very important women in any child’s earl life. One of course is their mother, the other, which may not be as obvious is His grandmother. While a mother gives them History, Security, Discipline and Direction; a Grandmother give them Heritage, Stability, Desire, and Design. The list could go on, but that is why it so important for a child to see the faith of not only their mother, but also of their grandmother. There are several examples of this, but consider the life of Timothy. While his mother Eunice, and grandmother Lois ware not commended directly in Scripture for their raising of Timothy, there is ample evidence to suggest that what they did was so instrumental in the life of Timothy that it was only natural for him to go on to serve the Lord in the way he did. Mother’s it is so important that you pour your faith into the life of your children. You can not guarantee that they will embrace that faith, but it will guarantee that they will build off that faith in their lives. And for fathers, it is important to reinforce the lessons that your wife builds into the life … READ MORE

Retirement – Philippians 3:14

by Jim Jamison

No discussion of work is complete without a look at what most workers are looking forward to ……. Retirement! The Bible seems to be clear that you can change what we do but there is no retirement in the kingdom of God. As our “need” to work for our daily living comes to a conclusion, due to wise investments, it frees us up to do more work for the Kingdom of God with the same passion and zeal that we did our work to provide a living for our families. As we transition in our lives, we have more time to do things that last for eternity for the Lord. Often we say, I was not called to be a pastor, or teacher in my church. But there are many things that you can do with your new time. You can work around your church as a volunteer (cleaning, painting, mowing, visiting, etc.); you can go on missions trips to assist missionaries with projects or programs as you come alongside of them and encourage them, freeing them up to do the work of building the church in another country. In doing this education, and language is not a barrier because … READ MORE
