May the Lord be exalted – Psalm 57:5

by Jim Jamison

In Psalm 57:5, David wrote “Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let your glory be above all the earth.”  He repeats these words in verse 11 of the same Psalm, and restates this statement again in Psalm 108:5.  In both of these Psalms, David is speaking of his assurance that God will gain victory over his enemies.  David writes Psalm 57, while hiding from Saul in the caves of the Negev.  I am reminded that I need to allow the Lord to be exalted in the midst of the struggles of life, knowing that the Lord will use those struggles to be exalted in the world.  The things that I go through are not simply a random act, but they are a carefully planned set a circumstances orchestrated by the Lord to bring glory to His name.  My problem is that I need to learn to be content in the midst of the circumstances and wait on the Lord to be used in a significant way in and through my life. … READ MORE

What do we do when we get to the fork in the road? Making decisions are an important part of what we do every day. The battle is how do we make good decisions. Often, we battle hoping to make not just the right choice, but the perfect one! The key to making good decisions is to understand what the Word of God says about them. With the knowledge of God, I understand that I am accountable to the one who has given me truth. With this in mind we need recognize that the better my understanding of the Word of God, the greater my ability to make better choices. Jesus said in John 8:32, “You shall know the truth,, and the truth shall make you free. As I learn the Word of God I need to work at understanding the principles revealed to us regarding the God we “fear” 2 Timothy … READ MORE

Pleasing God – Proverbs 1:7

by Jim Jamison

God is the Creator and sustainer of all things. As we make decisions the only one who knows the full impact of our decisions is the Lord as He sees the beginning from the end clearly. Proverbs 1:7 reminds us that “The fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of knowledge” (emphasis mine). Not the word “beginning” it means that this is the starting point of our decision-making process. In any and all decisions we make we must always start with God, and ask ourselves what decision would please God more. We start by understanding that there is a God and we are answerable to Him, that is the starting point. From there we must understand what He would have us do. Here we see a direct correlation between my knowledge of Scripture and the decision I am making. David said in Psalm 119:11 “You word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Here we are reminded that it is the Word of God that is the starting point for wisdom, and our understanding of God’s Word is the basis for wise decisions. We need to remember that our lives are not determined by … READ MORE
