God’s Gift of the Woman – Genesis 2:20-25

by Jim Jamison

The Biblical account of the woman’s remarkable creating, given to us in Genesis 2:20-25, is absolutely remarkable. The Hebrew expression describing how God “Mad [the rib] into a woman [“Ishah”} denotes careful construction and design. Literally, it means God built a woman He carefully assembled a whole new creature with just the right set of attributes to make her the ideal mate for man [Adam]. Specially created buy God for Adam from his own flesh and bone, “Ishah” suited Adam perfectly in every way. She is a wonderful illustration of the goodness of God’ grace, and the perfect wisdom of His will. God made her while Adam was asleep, without any tips or suggestions from Adam. Yet she perfectly met every need Adam had, satisfied every longing he may ever have felt, and delighted every faulty of his senses. She answered his need for companionship; she was a source of joy and gladness to him and she made possible the procreation of the human race. God reveals himself to man – Romans 1:20

by Jim Jamison

If we are going to see God accurately, we have to see Him as He has revealed Himself to us. Psalm 19:1 tells us, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handywork.” Everyone on earth who sees the sky, stars, and the sunset has seen the creativity of God. It does not hurt us to sit and consider nature, but this will only give us a partial picture of who God is. Creation can stir us to know God more, but if we want to know more of God, we must turn to His Word. John 1:1 says, “In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” God is the original communicator, and He created us as receptors of His Word. It is essential that we understand that in order to understand Who God really is, we can not do so only with our senses, we must do so with our minds, as we embrace the truths of God’s Word. Yet God’s written Word is not an end in itself. The continuation of John’s thought in John 1:1 is seen in John 1:14, “The Word was made … READ MORE

God is not like us – Isaiah 40:25-28

by Jim Jamison

The Bible tells us that we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), but it does not say that God is made in our image. God is not the bigger and better version of humans, we are simply intended to be a startling and amazing likeness of him. At our best, we only represent a hint of who and what He is. Isaiah 40:25-28, reminds us that God is never weary, and while there are things that we do not understand, God never even has a question come to His mind. The Apostle Paul, no stranger to humbling encounters with God pushed the limits of language when he tried to compose an appropriate doxology for God in Romans 11:33-36, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to Him, and it shall be recompensed unto Him again? For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.” The answer to these rhetorical questions is obvious … READ MORE
