The importance of the unspoken – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

by Jim Jamison

In John 13:1-17 Jesus challenged his disciples, by girding on a towel and washing their feet. He told them in verse 15 “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” The key here is not the washing of the feet, but the willingness to be a servant to those who are around us. Servanthood, is the supreme act of humility, Jesus was saying not only by his words, but also by His actions, that what we do i9s as important as what we believe and how we act. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us, “What know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are God’s.” As a follower of Jesus Christ, we are a living examples for others to be directed toward our Heavenly Father. David says in 1 Samuel 17:45, You have come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. BUT I come to you int eh name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Esrael, whom you have defied.” Here we are reminded that as we face the enemies of our soul, we need to remember that while they may seem insurmountable, We come before those enemies in the power of the LORD of hosts! It is God who protects our hearts, Jude tells us that there is no reason to fear because as a follower of Jesus Christ, we are “called, beloved in God the father, and kept for Jesus Christ” (1:24). The Word “kept” referees not only to a watchful guard, but also to a guarantee. God provided our guarantee because He knows that we need to have confidence in our salvation. While we … READ MORE

Fight against temptations – Philippians 4:1-3

by Jim Jamison

Knowing there is an end to spiritual warfare provides motivation for persevering in battle. Living without hope would be like running a race without a finish line. Learning to persevere in the face of the enemy is the key to learning to gain victory. The follower of Jesus who rejoices in future glory can also rejoice in present affliction, because trials produce in us the kind of character that has a greater capacity to rejoice about the future. No matter how severe or devastating our trials are, they can never take away our hope of future glory or steal our joy ……… unless we allow them to. Romans 5 tells us that trials are beneficial to our spiritual vitality because they prove our spiritual character by purifying and strengthening us. Paul wrote in Romans 8:18, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” As we “Stand fast in the Lord.” we can overcome discouragement, as we recognize that our God is a powerful God, and not grow weary in our trials. We are reminded that these things will help me become like Christ … READ MORE
