Facing the new year!

by Jim Jamison

Happy New Year! Yesterday we were reminded from Philippians 3:13-14 that one scriptural principle to work on in the coming year is we must not allow our yesterdays to define our todays, and we should “press on for the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” The next scriptural principle is found in Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Here we are commanded not to worry about tomorrow. I wonder some times how much time we spend mentally worrying about what tomorrow will bring. The problem is that we can never change what will happen tomorrow by worrying about how things will play out today. We have no control over the future, only God knows the reality of that future. Charles G. Trumbell once said, “We will never know victory over worry and anxiety until we begin to treat it as sin. For such it is. It is deep seated distrust of the Father, who assures us again and … READ MORE

How to meet the New Year

by Jim Jamison

A new calendar tells us we have been given a fresh gift to build our lives. The problem is that we often carry our old selves into the New Year. So hw can we change anything? We can accomplish personal alterations only with the love and help of God. We can have the best year ever if we put some scriptural principles to work every day of the coming year. I would like to point out a few principles over the next few days. The first thing we have to do if we are going to have a good year, is forget about yesterday. We are told in Philippians 3:13-14 “This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” We must not allow the Failures, hurts, disappointments of last year define us. We must also not allow the victories, successes, and accomplishments cause us to coast. What is behind us is just that, behind us. We must move forward, life is about change and growth. We do not have the liberty to … READ MORE

Should I wear a mask?

by Jim Jamison

Allow me to take on a controversial contemporary topic today. If you read my posts on a regular basis, please hear me out before you scroll past this post: If you are like me, you hate the idea of having to be confined behind a mask as you go out in public. How do you know what to do in the midst of this pandemic and the spike in cases that we are seeing in our communities. The government is mandating them, but stores have to carry out the mandate. We struggle with this because we say it violates our constitutional rights. We are in a cultural dilemma, we have those who are terrified to get the virus, and those who are wishing they could get the virus and be over with it. How do we respond. I am not going to answer that question, but let me give you some things to consider in regard to putting why we may struggle with wearing a mask, and what I should consider about wearing one.

1. One of our struggles is in the area of submitting to our government. Submission in America is a difficult concept to follow. After over 30 … READ MORE
