Why do we break bread – 1 Corinthians 15:3

by Jim Jamison

A friend of mine was walking through Psalm 122 one Wednesday night, and he said, Worship is an act that develops our feelings for God. It got me to start thinking and ask how does worship develop our feelings for God. I thought of the Lord’s Supper, and in 1 Corinthians 15:3 we are old that Christ died for our sins. As we think of this, we see that first of all this should provide a “Wow!” moment as we realize that Christ died for OUR SINS! That is followed by an “AWE” moment as we understand that Christ DIED for our sins, and finally we are reminded that we have an “EYE-OPENING moment as we are confronted with the reality that CHRIST died for us. All this is tied together by the fact that according to 1 Corinthians 15:3 that it was all done according to the Scripture. This was not a side plan or a plan “B”, This was God’s plan from the outset of creation! WOW! Stop today and allow that to sink in, and it should cause you to respond with a great deal of emotion.… READ MORE

by Jim Jamison

Luke’s simple, straightforward, unembellished language describes the most profound birth, with the most far-reaching implications, in the history of the world. On a night like any other night, in an obscure village in Israel, unnoticed by the world, a child was born. But while His birth was like that of every other child, the child was unlike any other child ever born, either before or since. For this child was the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, deity in human flesh, Israel’s long-awaited Messiah, the Savior of the World. In His birth God entered human society as an infant; the creator of the universe because a man. As Luke picks up the story of Jesus’ birth, he demonstrates how God sovereignty orchestrated events to bring about a direct fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. AS we prepare for Christmas tonight and tomorrow, we must remember that God is in the process of making the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the world. Like His first coming, it will be like any other day, but that day will change the direction of history forever. Are you ready? Merry Christmas to you all! Enjoy your day, and celebrate God’s arrival and … READ MORE

The importance of the Word of God – Ephesians 6:13

by Jim Jamison

Unlike the shield, which gives broad and general protection, the sword can only deflect an attack if it is handled precisely and skillfully. The Christian who does not know God’s Word cannot use it well. Christians who rely on their experience of salvation and their feelings to get them through temptation are vulnerable to every sort of spiritual danger. They get into countless compromising situations and fall prey to innumerable false ideas and practices, simply because they are ignorant of he specific teachings of scripture. The Sword of the Spirit is capable of inflicting blows as well as deflecting those of the enemy. The Word of God is so powerful it transforms people from the realm of darkness into light. Every time God’s Word is used to lead a person to salvation it gives witness to it power to cut a swath through Satan’s dominion of darkness and bring the light of life to a lost soul. . It is essential for the Word of God to be known, loved, and practiced if we are to win the battle against Sin, Satan, and Self.… READ MORE
