Ephesians 1:13 reminds us that we are “sealed by the Spirit of God”. In ancient times the seal of a king, prince or noble represented security from destruction. In an infinitely greater way, the Holy Spirit secures each believer, marking them with His own seal that is free from destruction. This “seal” gives us comfort and security in the midst of our struggle to overcome the flesh and the worlds influences. While it must be our goal and desire to walk in the Spirit, when we fall to the flesh, we are reminded that we are secure in our relationship with Christ, because of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. This seal is not a license to choose to sin, and live in those sinful choices, but is rather a mark that brings us back to our original commitment to Jesus Christ. May we choose to follow the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
