We have looked at the state of the world when Jesus returns, what about the state of the Church? 2 Thessalonians 2:3 tells us that, “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;” We often look at the last part of that verse which focus on the antichrist, but we see that person cannot be revealed until there be a falling away first. That “falling away seems to refer to a departure of the church to teach and point out the truth of God’s Word. Today, studies have shown that because of the current state of hte church, young people have been leaving the church in droves. The reason for this is that they have watched their parents not find any hope or purpose through their “religion” and therefore, are abandoning “faith.” I have witnessed families leaving solid Bible teaching ministries, because of a lack of program, or overinvolvement, and they move to a church that compromises the gospel, just so they can have the programs they like. Today, what the Word of God calls sin, society has labeled many things “addictions” that the Bible clearly identifies as sin. Many are willing to compromise the truth so that they can have the buffet that they desire. Doctrine has become a dirty word, Churches do not want to identify themselves with doctrine because they are afraid it will alienate people from attending. People want to go to church to feel good, not to be helped in the midst of their struggles. We need to remember that the church was established by Christ to be a hospital and a haven for the truth. As the truth is applied to lives, it helps us to grow in our relationship with Christ. Our walk with Christ is not about our “religion” it is about a relationship, and that relationship is enhanced and developed as we are taught and encouraged from the Word of God. Never underestimate the power of the body of Christ (the church) to direct your heart and mind to Christ through the clear teaching of the Word of God. If you don’t attend a solid church find one and attend. If you have one, make sure that you are consistent in your attendance! Be prepared for the soon and imminent return of our Savior.
