This week Ohio had their primary election. I was reminded that many people look for the answers to the problems of our society to come from our government. While governments are raised up and brought low by our Lord, I was reminded that no government, no matter how focused on the Word of God, can implement the change that is needed to our society. We can make all the laws we want, but people will still find ways to break them, because that is the way of the heart of man. So what do we do? We need to pray for our nation to return to its foundations established years ago, but the reality the only true solution to the issues we face is the return of Jesus Christ! The Bible reminds repeatedly, that one day the Lord will return, and He will establish His Kingdom here on earth. Some will disagree with the teaching of the Bible, but the Truth of God’s Word will bear out. All we have to do is look at the realty of the continued presence of the Jewish people to live in the hope of His return. God will fulfill His promises, because they are His, and He will do what He has promised. Why has He not done this yet, 2 Peter 3:8 gives us a perspective on that, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” God’s longsuffering with the nations is because of His desire to allow people the opportunity to turn toward Him and repent of their sin! In the meantime, we need to rest in the plan of God. Hebrews 11 (Faith’s hall of Fame of the Old Testament believers) says in verse 39-40, “All these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us that they should not be made perfect apart from us.” They did not lose out on the promise, they just were not here when the promise was culminated. Whether we are alive or with the Lord, we will see the return of the Lord! We can wait because, as a follower of Christ, we will see what God has promised become reality. That is the promise of the Scripture, and the hope that is provided from the Lord. As you struggle with the circumstances of your life, rest in the promises of our God, and wait patiently in His provision (Psalm 37:7).
