The Messiah’s Birth – Luke 2:1-7

Luke’s simple, straightforward, unembellished language describes the most profound birth, with the most far-reaching implications, in the history of the world. On a night like any other night, in an obscure village in Israel, unnoticed by the world, a child was born. But while His birth was like that of every other child, the child was unlike any other child ever born, either before or since. For this child was the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, deity in human flesh, Israel’s long-awaited Messiah, the Savior of the World. In His birth God entered human society as an infant; the creator of the universe because a man. As Luke picks up the story of Jesus’ birth, he demonstrates how God sovereignty orchestrated events to bring about a direct fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. AS we prepare for Christmas tonight and tomorrow, we must remember that God is in the process of making the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the world. The importance of the Word of God – Ephesians 6:13

Unlike the shield, which gives broad and general protection, the sword can only deflect an attack if it is handled precisely and skillfully. The Christian who does not know God’s Word cannot use it well. Christians who rely on their experience of salvation and their feelings to get them through temptation are vulnerable to every sort of spiritual danger. They get into countless compromising situations and fall prey to innumerable false ideas and practices, simply because they are ignorant of he specific teachings of scripture. The Sword of the Spirit is capable of inflicting blows as well as deflecting those of the enemy. The Word of God is so powerful it transforms people from the realm of darkness into light. Every time God’s Word is used to lead a person to salvation it gives witness to it power to cut a swath through Satan’s dominion of darkness and bring the light of life to a lost soul. . The Benefits of the Word of God – Psalm 119:105

What are the benefits of reading the Word of God? First, it is the source of truth (John 17:17) People today look everywhere for answers to life, to try to find out what is worth believing and what is not. The source of all truth about God and man, life and death, time and eternity, damnation and salvation, is all found in God’s own word!. Another benefit is It is the true source of happiness (Luke11:28). No person can be happier than when they discover, accept and obey the Word of God. It gives hope and perspective in the midst of all troubles and trials of life. It also gives direction in our lives (Psalm 119:105). What a privilege it is that God has revealed to us how to serve and please Him. Understanding the Word of God gives us that insight. The final thing I will mention is that it is the source of victory over our great spiritual enemy – Satan!. Matthew 4 gives us a clear picture of how Jesus gained victory over Satan in his temptation in the wilderness.
