Sealed by the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 1:13

by Jim Jamison

Because, as believers, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13) we are assured of the reality of the salvation that has been won for us by the Lord Jesus Christ. The importance of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence is to insure that we understand that our salvation is complete and sure, and not based on our own “good” works, but only on the work of Christ. The sealing of the Holy Spirit, not only enables us to be secure in our relationship with Christ, but announces to our enemy Satan, that whether he likes it or not, we belong to God, and are sent forth into this world with God’s authority to proclaim the truth, and through that truth transform others into the Image of God. As one who has committed their lives to the truth of the gospel, we do not need to fear that we will somehow be lost in the transition, or that we will do, think or say something that will forfeit our salvation. We are secure in our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. That should give us comfort in times of difficulties, and will remind us that He is always … READ MORE

The Authenticity of the believer – Ephesisans 1:13

by Jim Jamison

How can we tell the rea from the fake today? We have so many ways to duplicate something and make it look like it is real, when in reality it is a copy of the original at best. In Ephesians 1:13 we are told that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit at our conversion, and when that happens we are truly apart of God’s Kingdom. When God gives us His holy Spirit, it is as if He stamps us with a seal that reads, “This person belongs to me and is an authentic citizen of My Divine Kingdom, and a member of My Divine Family. The Spirit is the proof to Satan at his accusation before the throne that we belong to God. Why is this important? This seal is the proof that we belong to God. It is not based on our good works, it is not even based on the families that we are born into, or the churches we attend. What validates our authenticity is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. That is what makes us different from those who have no relationship with God. We are not different in our own strength, … READ MORE

The security of the believer – Ephesians 1:13

by Jim Jamison

Ephesians 1:13 reminds us that we are “sealed by the Spirit of God”. In ancient times the seal of a king, prince or noble represented security from destruction. In an infinitely greater way, the Holy Spirit secures each believer, marking them with His own seal that is free from destruction. This “seal” gives us comfort and security in the midst of our struggle to overcome the flesh and the worlds influences. While it must be our goal and desire to walk in the Spirit, when we fall to the flesh, we are reminded that we are secure in our relationship with Christ, because of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. This seal is not a license to choose to sin, and live in those sinful choices, but is rather a mark that brings us back to our original commitment to Jesus Christ. May we choose to follow the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.… READ MORE
