Avoiding Holiday Stress – Luke 2:19

by Jim Jamison

This weekend Kary and I went Christmas hunting (I don’t call it shopping, cuz I want to bag my presents and get home). I so enjoyed the time with my wife, but I would have enjoyed it more if there would not have been so many people around. I wanted so badly to have a horn on my shopping cart, and tell people to get out of my way. But, I have to remember that they have a right to shop also. So as I plowed my way through the stores, I attempted to do three things, which I would like to explore this week a bit: 1. Gain the right focus: I needed to remember that I was spending time with my wife, and purchasing gifts to remind my family and friends that I love them. 2. Guard the right focus: I need to remember the blessings of the year, and not allow the pressures of today, lead me to loose focus on what I am really doing. 3. The mind is a wonderful gift that the Lord has given to us, we need to learn to control our minds and discipline them to focus on that which is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. That is where true contentment, and satisfaction comes from. Yet this can only be done, as we develop our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Knowing what God has done for us, and continues to do for us, is a key to learning to meditate on the things outlined in Philippians 4:8. Stay in the Word of God and allow that truth to transform your thinking.… READ MORE

Maintain your perspective – Philippians 4:8

How do you look at life? Do you perceive your circumstances based on what you believe is best for you? When we do this, we are never really satisfied with what happens. We struggle because things do not seem to be fair. I would like to propose that we begin to look at life from God’s point of view. We need to remember that God is working out everything in conformity with His purpose and will! As we do this, we must choose to respond the right way to our circumstances, and occupy our mind by planning and deciding the proper way to go. With that in mind how do we replace unjust thoughts? First, understand that right thoughts replaces hurtful thoughts, just like light removes darkness. Second, right thoughts replaces personal pride. This means that often I think that I deserve better than what I am getting. The old, “I’ve been good so God owes me a better life,” We must remember that we live in a sin cursed world, with a sin cursed body, and a sin cursed enemy, those things will continue to war against us for as long as we are in this world (and always … READ MORE
