The Means of being Filled by the Holy Spirit

by Jim Jamison

What does being filled with the Spirit involve? It starts with our willingness to confess our sin, and then be willing to surrender our will, intellect, body, time, talent, possessions, and desires to the Lord. In short it is taking the Word of Christ (Scripture) and letting it indwell and infuse every part of our being. To be filled with God’s Spirit is to be filled with His Word. A longer understanding would be to say that: To be filled with the Spirit is to live in the consciousness of the personal presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, as if we were standing next to Him, and to let His mind dominate our life. This takes a conscious effort on our part to allow it to happen. Walk as Children of Light – Ephesians 5:8

by Jim Jamison

Ephesians 5:8 tells us that we are to walk as children of light in this world. This is a sin cursed world, and is characterized by darkness, because it is controlled by Satan. The only way we can have light is to be filled by the Spirit. In our flesh is no light at all, but as the light of God is shined through us through the Holy Spirit we can have the influence that God desires. That light is manifested by how those who are around us respond. Light reveals sin, and that light brings conviction in the lives of others. When you walk into a break room, does the conversation suddenly change? When you are around others, do they apologize for their “colorful” language? As believers our presence should convict others, but in order for that to happen, we have to live in the light. The only way we can to that is to be transformed by the power of the Spirit as we apply the Word of God to our lives. Let you light so shine today, that men may see your good works and glorify your father who is in heaven.… READ MORE

Christians cannot walk in humility, unity, separation, light, love and wisdom apart from the energizing of the Holy Spirit. To walk without the Spirit is to walk unwisely and foolishly. we can “be imitators of God, as beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1) only as we are filled by the spirit In Ephesians 5:18-21, Paul presents the contrast of the way of the flesh with the way of the Spirit. He begins by talking about the way of the flesh, which is characterized by the pagan religion out of which may of the Ephesian believers had come, a religion that centered around drunken, immoral orgies of supposed ecstasy, in which a person tried to progressively elevate themselves into communion with the gods. In Verses 18b-21 the godly walk of God’s children that expresses itself in the Spirit-controlled life and worship of beauty and holiness. He first gives the central command of the epistle and follows it with an outline of the consequences of obedience to that command. The Holy Spirit is our divine pledge and security that Jesus’ promises are fulfilled. Being filled with the Spirit, means that we are able to put the principles and practices of the Word of God … READ MORE
