Conviction: Peace or War? – 1 John 4:4

by Jim Jamison

As we consider the convicting work of he Holy Spirit there ae only two possible responses to that ministry: Repentance or rejection. From those who reject the Spirit’s conviction will come hostility to the followers of Christ. Their end is eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, according to 2 Thessalonians 1:9. Those who repent when the Sprit convicts them will spend eternity in the inexpressible glory and joy of heaven. Yet while they still face trials, they do not need to fear, because according to 1 John 4:4 “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” True peace within ourselves, comes through the witness of the indwelling Holy Spirit that we are right with God. Today, will you submit your will to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and find that peace that passes all understanding?… READ MORE

Clothed in Rightousness – John 16:7-11

by Jim Jamison

John 16:7-11 reminds us that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The conviction of sin does not means sin specific (although He does that), in this context the reference is to the sin of refusing to believe in Jesus Christ as their savior. The sole issue that determines people’s eternal destiny is how they react to the Spirits convicting ministry concerning their own sin and the provision of forgiveness by grace through Jesus Christ. The third, Judgment, means hat the Holy Spirit convicts men of the reality of their own sinfulness and inability to turn from their sin. The sobering warning to those who embrace the world system is that since its ruler will not escape judgment, neither will they, unless they repent of their sin and turn to Christ (The glory is seen in that the Holy Spirit then enables people to turn from sin to Christ). And finally, number two, or righteousness. The righteousness here is that which belongs to Christ by nature as the holy Son of God. Not only does the Spirit convict unbelievers of their sin, but also of the necessity of having the perfect righteousness of Christ. Those who … READ MORE

The Conviction of the Holy Spirit – John 16:7-11

by Jim Jamison

The Holy Spirit does not minister only to followers of Jesus Christ according to John 16:7-11 he also ministers to the unbelieving world. No one can come to understand the Person work and Word of Jesus Christ apart from the convicting work of the Holy Spirit, and His regenerating work. The Word of God reminds us that all people are by nature rebels against God and hostile to Jesus Christ. In order to bring people into this relationship the Holy Spirit must break the power of sin that enslaves people. The beginning of the Holy Spirit’s saving ministry to the lost is revealed in the word “reprove.” It is the Spirit’s mission to present the truth about Jesus Christ to the world; those who reject the truth will be found guilty and judged by the son and the Father according to John 5:22, 27, 30. The benefit of all this is that even the hardest heart can be softened by the power of the Holy Spirit. We can then live our lives and share our faith confident that the Holy Spirit will accomplish his purpose in the lives of those we are impacting.… READ MORE
