The transforming power of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 12:3

by Jim Jamison

A hallmark of false doctrine is its attacks on the Person, Work, and Word of Jesus Christ. Throughout history, many have assaulted Christ’s deity, humanity, and singular efficacy and sufficiency of His saving work. The reformation definition of salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone was affirmed against the backdrop of attacks on Biblical salvation. It appears that Satan devotes his personal efforts not to tempting individual Christians but to devising false systems of religion, which teach lies about Christ. According to 2 Thessalonians 2 there is coming a satanic false religion that will dominate the world like no other in history. Its object of worship will be the most powerful, evil, deceitful person to ever live. he will be the culmination of Satan’s long war against God, the last and most evil manifestation of the antichrist spirit. Yet in the midst of all this, we find the restraining power of the Holy Spirit at work. We are reminded in 1 Corinthians 12:3 “Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.” The Holy … READ MORE

The Spirit Provides Hope – 2 Thessalonians 2

by Jim Jamison

In 2 Thessalonians 2, we ae reminded of two very important things: 1. It is the Holy Spirit who restrains evil, and that evil cannot become worse until the fullness of time. Therefore, we must not become discouraged with the path we are on, because God will see us safely through all things. (cf. Psalm 23:4) 2. The same Holy Spirit who restrains evil, is the Spirit that draws us to God, and keeps us in that relationship. We are reminded in 1 John 4:4 Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Salvation becomes a reality in our lives by the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit, and we can rest in the power of God to bring us into His rest. My friends, don’t be overwhelmed by the events of this world, God is orchestrating those events according to His plan and purpose. Remember, this is a temporary place we live, until we are taken home to the place where there is no longer any pain and sorrow. Our lives are a means that God is using to point many others to the wonder of salvation and eternal life. Serve Him today.… READ MORE

God’s wrath and the Holy Spirit’s restraint – Romans 1:18-25

by Jim Jamison

In 2 Thessalonians 2:7 we see that, one day the restraining ministry of the Holy Spirit will be removed. But that leads to some questions. Does that mean that the Holy Spirit will be removed from the world? If not how can that removal happen? This phrase “taken out of the way” does not refer to the removal of the Holy Spirit from the world, but rather to the cessation of HIs restraining work. One of the clearest passages to look at to understand this is Romans 1:18-25, where the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness. When we think of God’s wrath, we think of lighting, storms, and devastation. Interestingly, in the Bible the wrath of God is usually accompanied by God withdrawing himself from mankind and allowing them to move in the bent of their own thinking. Since men are sinners by nature, they do what is natural and sin against one another. The manifestation of this is a downward spiral of society and culture toward evil. Often what we see is that people call good evil, and evil good! The Bible clearly indicates this event will occur during the tribulation period, and will allow the rise … READ MORE
