Mothers who make a difference: Jochebed – Exodus 1-2

by Jim Jamison

Moses’ mother took great risks to protect her son. Unfortunately, this woman was a slave among a very brutal people. The plan according to Exodus 1:15-16, was to control the Hebrew people through controlling the male population. The problem for the Pharaoh (Exodus 1:17-22) is that the midwives did not obey his command and allowed boys to live and the nation of Israel continued to grow strong in spirit and in number. After Moses mother could no longer hide him and feared that death would come to her son, she placed him in the Nile and trusted God for his deliverance. Not only did God protect the child, called Moses, according to Exodus 2:7-9 Jochebed was given the privilege of being paid to raise him (What mother would not like that benefit!) Mothers have protected their children in many ways, some have protected them physically, keeping them from danger. Others have protected their children morally by teaching them right from wrong. Many times mothers have protected their children emotionally by keeping Them from things they knew would hurt them. But the greatest protection that a mother can provide for their children is to raise them in the nurture and admonition … READ MORE

Mother’s who make a difference: Eve – Genesis 3:20

by Jim Jamison

Eve, was the mother of all living people who have been and who will be. Her name, Eve, means “living” She was he first mother and the first woman to ever give birth to a child. I wonder if she knew what to expect when it came time for Cain to be born? I wonder if she was afraid of motherhood… no one had ever done it before. I wonder if she knew what an important and influential job being a mother would be? Since he time of Eve, it has fallen to mothers to raise their children for the Lord. They are to nurture us, provide for us, raise us, teach us, and discipline us. Mother’s have the remarkable ability to change the world through their children. We have gone through another Mother’s Day, but the influence of our mothers are still with us. If you are a mom, thank you for the sacrifices you have made to make your children’s lives special. If you are a child (and who of are not), choose one thing about your mom and honor her for it. Remember, like you she is not perfect, but she chose to give you life, and … READ MORE

motherhood and adoption – Ephesians 1:5

by Jim Jamison

I want to conclude my thoughts leading up to Mother’s Day with some thoughts on mom’s who were not “Birth Moms”. In Ephesians 1:5, We are reminded that “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” We are adopted into the family of God, we are also reminded in John 15:16, we are reminded that we have not chosen Christ, but He has chosen us. That is a beautifully pictured in the Adoptive Mom. Unlike a birth mom who is “stuck” with the child that she gets, an adoptive mom chose you out of all the ranks of children that were possible. This selection is a wonderful picture of what God does for us. out of all people God could choose, He choose us, and in that choice He devotes His full love and attention to us. He could not love us more, if we were His “Only Begotten”, If you are the child of adoption, don’t feel like your “birth mother” abandoned you, look at it as if your “birth mother” love you enough to give you to another family to give you advantages that she … READ MORE
