The Work of the Holy Spirit – 2 Thessalonians 2:13

by Jim Jamison

We are reminded in 2 Thessalonians 2:13 that we worked in our lives to draw us to Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. As a member of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit has His own unique, vital, and indispensable role to perform in the creation and nurturing of the true church. We must understand that the Holy Spirit is a person, and that He desires to work with us, and within us to conform us into the image of Christ. It is our role to learn to submit to the Will of the Spirit, so that we might better understand the power of God at our disposal to live and walk in the Christian life. Walking in the Spirit is a way of life, not a one time event, we need to spend time in the work of God to “feed” our spiritual life, and to understand His Word. The amazing aspect of the Spiritual life is that it is the Holy Spirit that enables us to walk and grow in our relationship with God. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to give us spiritual life, conceived by the work of Christ, and born again … READ MORE

The Work of the Holy Spirit in providing Scripture – 2 Peter 1:20-21

by Jim Jamison

How do we know that the Word of God is true and complete? According to 2 Peter 1:20-21, it is the work of the Holy Spirit of God to give us the Bible. Men did not write the Bible as a work of their own volition, it is the Spirit of God who guided them to write what we needed to know. The value of that is that while the Bible was completed over many centuries, it still only had one true author – The Spirit of God! This demonstrates that the Word of God is reliable, and true, and that as a result we can trust what it says. This is foundational to our Christianity. This is the basis for the security we have and the authority that we have in following the Bible. We must always remember that the Bible does NOT contain the word of God, it IS the Word of God in totality. What a comfort it is to know and understand that the Bible was given to us to understand who God is and what He is doing to reconcile us to Himself. Spend time today reading your Bible, it is God’s love letter to … READ MORE

The Holy Spirit is Relational

by Jim Jamison

The Holy Spirit is not a force or power that permeates the universe; The Holy Spirit is a personal being, the third person of the trinity, which possesses intellect (cf. 1 Cor. 2:10-11), emotion (cf. Eph. 4:30), and will (cf. 1 Cor. 12:11). We must understand that by saying that He is the third person in the Trinity, that does not mean third in order, but third in the unity of the godhead! That means that the Holy Spirit is able to fulfill His role in the Godhead, because there is nothing that is powerful enough to stop Him from accomplishing that plan. Because the Holy Spirit is a person, He relates to us personally, and not as an indiscriminate force. What He does in our lives is based on the plan and purpose of the Godhead, and He enables us to know who God is, and what He has revealed to us through the pages of the Bible. As we learn to walk in the Spirit (as a child who learns to walk), we become more comfortable with out spiritual acumen, which enables us to know how to implement the Word of God into our lives. All this is … READ MORE
