The Power of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 12:3

by Jim Jamison

We are reminded that the Holy Spirit of God guides us into all truth, and that we cannot call upon the Lord, recognizing Him as Lord of our lives without the Holy Spirit enabling us to do so (1 Corinthians 12:3). It is because He is God that He has the power, ability, and desire to transform us from the darkness into the marvelous light. What are we to do? According to Ephesians 5:18 we are to learn to be controlled by the Holy Spirit, and according to Galatians 5:16, we are to walk in the Holy Spirit. The divine enablement to live the Christian life comes from the indwelling Spirit of God and the only way to receive this enablement is to commit yourselves to follow the Lord Jesus Christ! May our goal for the remainder of the week be to learn to walk closely to God, through the power of the Holy Spirit.… READ MORE

The works ascribed to the Spirit demonstrate His Deity

by Jim Jamison

In considering the deity of the Holy Spirit it is essential, that we understand that the works ascribed to the Spirit clearly demonstrate that He is God! He is involved in creation according to Job 26:13, the work of providence in Isaiah 40:13-15, The humanity of Christ was miraculously formed by the Spirit according to Mathew 1:20, and the resurrection of Christ was by the power of the Spirit according to Romans 8:11. What does all this demonstrate to us? Since the Holy Spirit is God, and since He dwells in us, He has the power, authority and desire to change us into the image of Christ. Our hope in an eternal presence with the Father, is not built on a whimsical hope of mankind or some changeable force, it is built upon the reality of God himself, making it possible for us to become new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). What makes the believer different that those without a relationship with Christ, is not that we are somehow better than they are, hat makes us different is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, which produces change in our hearts and enables us to be different, not because … READ MORE

The Temple of God! – 1 Corinthians 3:16

by Jim Jamison

Why is it that there is no Temple to worship God at any longer? 1 Corinthians 3:16 reminds us that the reason for that is that we do not have to go to God, we have the Spirit of God dwelling in us. This means that there is no dichotomy in our lives of sacred and secular. No matter where we are, the Spirit of God is there. This does not negate our responsibility to be in the Local Church to use the gifts that the Spirit has given to us to enhance the body, but it is a reminder to us, of two very important realities. First, that we are to live a holy life! We must understand that because their is no sacred/secular dichotomy we can not compartmentalize our lives and think that what I do outside of my church does not affect my Spiritual life. Since the Spirit resides in us 24/7 we are always responsible for our thoughts and actions. The second, thing that we need to recognized is, that we have the Holy Spirit in our hearts, to enable us to perform this arduous task. We no longer have the law of God written on … READ MORE
