What does Knowing God look Like?

by Jim Jamison

Knowing God is a relationship calculated to thrill a man’s heart. What happens is that the almighty Creator, the Lord of hosts,, before whom the nations are as a drop in a bucket, comes to us and begins to reveal Himself to us, there the words of truth of the Holy Scripture. As we listen to what God is saying, we find ourselves brought very low; for God talks to us about our sin, and guilt, and compels us to judge ourselves hopeless and helpless, and cry out for forgiveness. But this is not all. We come to realize as we listen that God is actually opening our heart to Him, making us His friends, and enlisting us to be covenant partners. It is a staggering thiing, but it is true — the relationship in which sinful human beings know God is one in which God takes us on His staff, and to be henceforth His fellow-workers and personal friends. According to John 17:3 we were made to know God. Jeremiah 9:23-24 says “Thus saith the LORD, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches, but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows [God].” Once we become aware that the main business that we are her for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord. What makes life worthwhile is having a big enough objective, to capture our imagination and lay hold of our allegiances. When we speak of knowing God, we are using a verbal formula, and formula’s are like cheques; they are no use unless we know how to cash them. What are we talking about when we use the phrase “knowing god?” A special sort of emotion — shivers down the back? a dreamy, off-the-ground, floating feeling? Tingling thrills and exhilaration, such as drug-takers seek? Or is knowing God a special sort of intellectual experience” Does one hear a voce? See a vision Find strange trains of thoughts coursing through one’s mind? Knowing God is more … READ MORE

Check your energy for God – Daniel 11:32

by Jim Jamison

Technology is so far beyond my understanding. It seems that the more that I learn about technology, the more I recognize that it is simply complex. I don’t have to understand how my computer works in order to make it work, but the greater that I understand the computer the more I can unlock its power and potential. There is a sense, in which that is similar to our relationship with God. The greater I know Him, the more I can unlock the power and potential that He has for me. People who truly know God demonstrate a strength in the midst of trial and difficulties. Daniel was no stranger to difficulties, he was taken as a young boy by the Babylonians, and they attempted to retrain him in his thinking and actions. However, Daniel knew, and the Babylonians would learn, that he was a better citizen of Babylon because of his relationship with the Lord, than he would be if he embraced the culture that he was brought into. May we learn this valuable lesson, and as Daniel did “purpose in our hearts that we will not sin against the Lord” (Daniel 1:8). … READ MORE
