Christ’s words of comfort – John 14:4-6

by Jim Jamison

In John 14:1-14 Jesus is talking to the disciples about His death, and he shares with them in verse one that our comfort comes from trusting His presence. In verses 2-3, we see that our comfort comes from trusting in the Lord’s preparation for us. And in verses 4-6 Jesus reminds us that our comfort comes from trusting His proclamation. He begins by sharing with his disciples in verse 4 that “Where I go you know, and the way you know.” From early in his ministry Jesus taught how he must die and be raised on the third day” (Matthew 16:21). This instruction to the disciples weas not knew. This “knowing” comes from perception from the eyes, or experience. This the practical experience that he has taught the disciples that was built on what he said and did – “doing the father’s will.” For three and a half years the disciples had listened to the teaching and instruction of the Lord they have lived the path! They understood that He must be about the Father’s business. But like us, while they knew what He has said, they refused to apply that to their situation. The problem is that we often … READ MORE

The battlefield of the mind – Ephesians 6:10

by Jim Jamison

Florence Nightingale wrote: “Life is a hard fight, a struggle, a wrestling with the principle of evil, hand to hand, foot to foot. Every inch of the way is disputed.” We are in a battle and that battle is fought for our eternal soul? There is not a single place that we can go that the battle doesn’t rage. The reason for that is because the battle takes place in our mind. In Ephesians 6:12 we are told that “we do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powe3rs, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” fighting on all fronts will require a special resource, because the power of darkness will overwhelm us if we rely on our own strength. The good new is that Jesus is our resource, and the power that He provides is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to enable us to overcome that evil way of thinking. 1 John 4:4 tells us that “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” We have victory because of the work of Christ on the cross. We must … READ MORE

The Lake of Fire – Revelation 22:14-15

by Jim Jamison

The evidence is irrefutable, the verdict rendered; judgment will be swiftly carried out. Revelation 22:14-15 gives us a sad reminder of what happens to those who are not found written in the book of life. Those who die in their sins in this present world of time and space will die a second death in eternity – they will be sentenced to the lake of fire forever. Scripture vividly portrays the various aspects of the final, fiery hell, The Bible also depicts this place as a place of total darkness, which will isolate its inmates from each other (Matthew 8:12). There is only one way to avoid the terrifying reality of hell. Those who confess their sins and ask God to forgive them on the basis of Christ’s substitutionary death on their behalf will be delivered from God’s eternal wrath (Romas 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10). For those who refuse to repent, the somber warning expressed by the writer of Hebrews, in Hebrews 10:26-31, will apply. The time for preparation for eternity is now, turn to the Lord while you still have the opportunity. … READ MORE
