Add margin to your life – Ephesians 5:14-15

by Jim Jamison

In the early 70’s Jim Croce wrote a song that said, “If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I’d like to do, is to save every day “till eternity passes away-just to spend them with you.” Those are interesting lyrics, and it may be nice if we could save time, but unfortunately, we can’t. In fact, a few months after he wrote that song, Jim Croce was tragically killed in a plane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana at the age of 30. Where we invest our time reveals what is most important to us. Let me ask you a question, “How much of your discretionary time is devoted to the Lord?” We often talk about “quality time” but the reality is that all time has the same quality. Every moment is a gift from God that must be managed wisely. Paul speaks of “redeeming” the time in Ephesians 5:14-15. This means that we should be constantly looking around to make the most of every opportunity. Remember once opportunity passes, it cannot be reclaimed. Make time today for the things that are truly important. The way to do this is to create margin in your life. When … READ MORE

The Importance of each moment – Psalm 90:12

by Jim Jamison

A. W. Tozer once wrote, “Time is a resource that is nonrenewable and nontransferable. You cannot store it, slow it up, hold it up, divide it up or give it up. You can’t hoard it up or save it for a rainy day–when it’s lost it’s unrecoverable. When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.” God tells us in Psalm 90:12 that we should treasure time as a valuable commodity. Every day is precious, and we should treasure it and number it. It has been written somewhere, “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift … that’s why it is call the “present!” What a great gift God has given to us, it is called, “Today.” Embrace each moment, and enjoy the direction of the Lord. Even in the dark moments of life, the Psalm writer said, “Yea, though I walk, through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. . .” How can he do that? He continues the verse when he answers, “FOR YOU ARE WITH ME,” He continues his explanation by saying, “Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4). God not only goes before us in … READ MORE

Number your days – Psalm 90:12

by Jim Jamison

Benjamin Franklin said, “Do not squander time, for it is the stuff life is made of.” Many people are frustrated because the always seem to be fighting the clock. They stay up late, then sleep as late as they can and rush frantically to school or work. The Bible gives us some great insight into how time can become your friend rather than your enemy. The first step in making time our friend is to totally immerse our life in God. Psalm 90:12 reminds us to “teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Numbering our days means that we recognize that we only have a finite number of days, and each day we live is one more day that we do not have to invest in others. In the business of our lives, we need to make some margin in order to keep from becoming so preoccupied with the things around us that we forget what is truly important. Time is a commodity that we cannot barter, sell, or give away. We can use time to invest in others, or we can spend time in frivolous matters. Either way we are all stewards … READ MORE
