Faith is a struggle for most of us, because we like to walk by sight not faith. But it is the Spirit of God who enables us to have the faith to trust God to deliver us from the power and presence of sin in our lives. In 1 Corinthians 12:9 Paul talks about the gift of faith, which is not the ability to believe in God for salvation, but the ability to trust God in the face of overwhelming obstacles and human impossibilities. This faith is primarily expressed toward God through prayer, appealing to and trusting God to do that which is beyond His normal provision. The Psalms are filled with directives on living in faith during those times, and are helpful for us as we struggle to face the circumstances of life. Those with this gift have a special ability to lay claim on the promises of God, and live a contented life regardless of the situation. It is during these times of strong faith that others around us are always helped and served. Difficulties are the workouts of our lives. We all want to be strong, but we don’t want to go through the process of getting strong. There is no easy way to gain strength, it comes through the diligent work that is difficult. Warren Wiersbe once wrote a book entitled, “Bumps are what we grow on” Allow yourself to grow and stretch through the difficulties of life.
