What is the one area of the Bible that you want to make sure you are correct about? God? Holy Spirit? Who am I? I would contend that the one area that we all want to make sure we are correct about is “Where will you spend eternity?” Today if you ask most people if they are going to heaven, they will say “I hope so!” or “I wish I knew”. In John 20:31, he makes it clear that the words that are written in his gospel were put there that we might believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing this truth you will have eternal life. Salvation is the gift of God, that He gives us by His grace. We do not earn that gift (Ephesians 2:8-9) but receive it through faith in Christ alone. But how can we be certain that is true? What gives me the right to say that if we seek salvation by any other means, we are wrong about our faith? Let’s start that thinking with a simple verse that Jesus shares with the disciples in John 14:6 when He is talking to them just prior to His death, as He was planning to go to the Father. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me.” It is not me who is saying that Jesus is the only way, it is Christ Jesus Himself! Our security in Christ is not built on a denomination, church, or even our own opinion. Our security is built upon the very teaching of Jesus Himself! Turn to Him, trust the work of Christ on the cross for your salvation, and it will change your life. That change will be a manifestation of your faith, as you choose to trust God with your life.
