Harry Houdini once said that his greatest escape trick would be to come back from the dead. However, after he died, he has remained dead to this day. Jesus on the other hand, said in John 2:19 “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” it is noted in John 2:21 “he spake of the temple of his body.” The Jews of his day were well aware of this teaching, and asked Pilate to set a guard over the tomb to keep anyone from stealing the body. Yet, no guard could keep Jesus in the tomb, and on the third day he rose from the dead, as He said He would. This means that Jesus not only has the desire to fulfill His earthly promises, but the ability and the desire to do so. Jesus is alive today and sits at the right hand of God (Hebrews 1:3), and He is awaiting the time for his return. His earthly teaching was filled with references to His Second Coming and the disciples even asked in Matthew 24, “What are the signs of your coming.” (v3). While he was on trial for His life, Jesus defended His own deity with a bold declaration of the Second Coming in the most triumphant terms: “You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” (Mark14:61-62). Jesus wanted both friends and enemies to know that He would be returning one day. His credibility depends on the second coming. Just as he always did what He said He would do while alive. He will do what He has said He will do in the future! My Friends, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of your faith.
