As David faced Goliath, in 1 Samuel 17, we are reminded that Goliath seemed like a overwhelming foe. How was David able to go against this enemy, with the confidence that He not only had a chance, but that he would be able to defeat this might enemy? David says in 1 Samuel 17:45, You have come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. BUT I come to you int eh name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Esrael, whom you have defied.” Here we are reminded that as we face the enemies of our soul, we need to remember that while they may seem insurmountable, We come before those enemies in the power of the LORD of hosts! It is God who protects our hearts, Jude tells us that there is no reason to fear because as a follower of Jesus Christ, we are “called, beloved in God the father, and kept for Jesus Christ” (1:24). The Word “kept” referees not only to a watchful guard, but also to a guarantee. God provided our guarantee because He knows that we need to have confidence in our salvation. While we have not received our full inheritance because we are not in heaven. We know it will certainly happen one day because the indwelling Holy Spirit guarantees it (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). We are kept by the power of God. Jude focused those who follow Christ, attention on God and His power, not on our enemy, because Only God has the power to keep us from falling and present us in Christ-like purity before Himself. My friends, stand firm in the face of the enemy, knowing that our protection comes from the power and promises of the Lord.
