What my Mother Taught me:
– ON RELIGION: When I spilled grape juice on the carpet, she instructed, “you better pray the stain will come out of the carpet.”
– ON LOGIC: From her decisive words, “Because I said so, that is why!”
– ON FORESIGHT: Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”
– ON IRONY: “Keep laughing, and I’ll giv3 you something to cry about.”
– ON STAMINA: “You’ll sit there til all that asparagus is finished.”
– ON WEATHER: “It looks as if a tornado swept through your room.”
– ON THE CIRCLE OF LIFE: “I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”
– ON BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION: “Stop acting like your father!”
– ON ENVY: “There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who would gladly eat this food!”
God was so wise in giving us mom’s, they are the first person who influences how we will develop and grow. And they will continue to influence us throughout out lives. My mom died about 17 years ago, and I still hear her words ringing in my ears. I do hope that you were able to reach out to your mom on Sunday, and remind her that you were thinking of her. If not, take the time to reach out to her and encourage her today. Proverbs 31:31 reminds us that “a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.” As her children we are the good works of her hands.
