Temptation is a real issue in each of our lives. We have such a struggle because we are in a spiritual battle! It is not just flesh and blood that we war against, the Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:12 “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” We need to recognize the battle that is before us, and learn to appropriate the appropriate tools to win each conflict in our lives. We are told in Psalm 119:11, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” The key to overcoming the battle of the wo Kingdoms is learning to submit ourselves to the Word of God, through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is not a list of magic formulas and incantations, rather is a guide to assist us as we walk through this life. It provides us with the wisdom to understand the battle before us, and through the Holy Spirit we are given the ability to win that battle. We are reminded in 1 John 4:4, “… He [Jesus] who is in you is greater than he [Satan] who is in the world.” We need to learn to appropriate the Word of God in our actions so that we have the strength and ability to overcome temptation when it comes our way.
