Where our hope rests – Hebrews 6:19-20

by Jim Jamison

The world’s hopelessness stands in stark contrast to the genuine and lasting hope that God offers. To be sure, the present joys of salvation cannot compare with the ultimate, surpassing joys that divine hope guarantees for the future, when salvation is fully realized. Since eternal glory is the reason for God’s saving plan and purpose, scripture sets forth a complete theology of hope. Hope finds it beginning in the unchanging God, who cannot speak anything but the truth. Hope founded in the immutable and eternal Deity is sure and absolutely fixed. So certain is our hope that the author of Hebrews could write in Hebrews 6:19-10 “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which enters into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedec.” Because God never changes we can rest in our expectations that have been given to us through God’s Word. … READ MORE

An eschatology of hope – Genesis 3:14-15

In 1 Corinthians 13:13 we read, “Now abides faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” We tend to speak a lot about faith, and certainly focus on the importance of love, but a life without hope is a life lived in depression and uncertainty. God in His infinite wisdom, has revealed to us in the pages of His Word what His plan is working toward. The importance of Eschatology (The study of the last days) is seen that it is given to give us hope and perspective in light of the culture around us. Hope introduces life and happiness into this sin-stained and death-filled world. Yet, sadly, most people in this world know nothing of the advantages and privileges that true hope brings. W are reminded in Hebrews 6:19, that we have “an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast. The hopelessness of the world stand in stark contrast to the genuine and lasting hope that God offers, by giving us and understanding of the redemptive plan that He has for mankind. The Bible began to reveal God’s plan of redemption way back in Genesis 3:14-15, and the entirety of the … READ MORE

Learning to Trust God – Mark 9:14-29

by Jim Jamison

In Mark 9 a man comes to Jesus whose son was having convulsions, and he knew that Jesus was able to heal her, but was not sure He would choose to heal her. He says in Verse 24 “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” Why is it that trusting the Lord, is do difficult. Many of us are just like this father, who is uncertain that Jesus cares enough about us and our circumstances to intervene on our behalf. We try to figure out what we need to do, and attempt to carry out those plans. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” We must understand that God knows His plans for us, and we need to trust him in the midst of our circumstances to bring about His desired end. This is not a form of fatalism that causes us to just tolerate results, it is a trust that allows us to move forward where we are with a confidence that God has it all under control. When we struggle we need to be like this … READ MORE
