The gift of healings – 1 Corinthians 12:9

by Jim Jamison

Today there are many people who claim to have this gift. For a modest contribution, the ministry will pray for you and “guarantee” healing or blessing to you. We MUST understand that this gift was never given for men or ministries to profit. As a matter of fact, no where in scripture did anyone ever ask for, or accept any monetary gift for the healing that they preformed. The gift of healings was given to the church for authenticating the apostolic message as the Word of God. The great commission does not include a call to heal bodies but only the call to heal souls through the preaching of the gospel. Medical work has long been a God-blessed part of the Christian service and is one of the cutting edges of modern missions. Gut God’s healing work, whether through medicine or miracle, is no longer an authenticating sign, and He no longer endows His church with such gifts. No Understand this, no New Testament Healing was a permanent reversal of the sin process, all who were healed died of something! A careful examination of the New Testament shows that as Paul’s ministry moved forward, he never healed himself, nor asked … READ MORE

The Gift of Faith – 1 Corinthians 12:9

by Jim Jamison

Faith is a struggle for most of us, because we like to walk by sight not faith. But it is the Spirit of God who enables us to have the faith to trust God to deliver us from the power and presence of sin in our lives. In 1 Corinthians 12:9 Paul talks about the gift of faith, which is not the ability to believe in God for salvation, but the ability to trust God in the face of overwhelming obstacles and human impossibilities. This faith is primarily expressed toward God through prayer, appealing to and trusting God to do that which is beyond His normal provision. The Psalms are filled with directives on living in faith during those times, and are helpful for us as we struggle to face the circumstances of life. Those with this gift have a special ability to lay claim on the promises of God, and live a contented life regardless of the situation. It is during these times of strong faith that others around us are always helped and served. Difficulties are the workouts of our lives. We all want to be strong, but we don’t want to go through the process of getting … READ MORE

The Word of Wisdom – 1 Corinthians 12:8

by Jim Jamison

We turn our attention once again to 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 and we move to “the word of wisdom” mentioned in verse 8. In the New Testament, wisdom (sophia) is used most often to refer to the ability to understand God’s will and apply it obediently. One must understand, that to have wisdom, a person must have a deep understanding of the Word of God. Wisdom does not come from a blind understanding of the truth, it comes from a rich understanding of the truth. It refers basically to applying truths discovered, to the ability to make skillful and practical application of the truth to life situations. If you remember in the Old Testament, when, Solomon was given permission by God to ask anything he wanted, Solomon asked God to give him the wisdom to lead the people of Israel. The person who seeks wisdom not only draws from their own study of Scripture but from the many insights and interpretations of other faithful men of God. It is this gift that enables the Biblical Counselor to apply God’s truth to the questions and problems brought to them. It is also a gift of the pastor, who must know, understand, and … READ MORE
