What is the Blessed Hope? 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

by Jim Jamison

The question of when Christ will return has fueled, speculation by many “well meaning” preachers, and by many for their own gain. It is often used to scare the lost, and wayward believers to get in line for Christ, but what is the purpose for us to know that Christ will return, and what does the Bible say about that return? This Sunday, November 27, during the morning service at 10:30 am we will examine 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and attempt to understand what Paul was talking about when he mentions to Titus in Titus 2:13 concerning the “Blessed Hope”. We want to understand that the primary purpose of the rapture of the Church is not to scare the wayward, but to encourage and comfort those who are following Christ. While the reality of this event should cause people to pause and consider their relationship with Christ, this is a wonderful promise, that gives believers something exciting to look forward to. We hope to see you this Sunday as we look at this wonderful future event!!!… READ MORE

What are you thankful for? – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

by Jim Jamison

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect back on our lives and be thankful for the things that God has done to allow us to be here today. Some things that have happened are not things that we would have chosen for ourselves. Others, are wonderful things that are beyond anything we ever believed could have happened to us. Most things are somewhere in the middle that we take for granted, and often ignore. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “in Everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” As hard as it may be for us to understand we would not be who we are today, were it not for the things that we have undergone in our past, all the people, places, and things we have undergone is what makes us special today. I want to thank God for all those things, and learn to trust Him for those things that are to come, knowing that His desire is to make me more like Christ.

The importance of Pentecost (con’t)

by Jim Jamison

Because of the Work of Christ seen in Acts 2, at Pentecost, we see that the plan and purpose of God is now carried out through the work of the Holy Spirit in the church, which was established. Salvation is made possible because the Holy Spirit brings us into a new and unique relationship with Christ. It is that relationship with Christ that makes the change in the life of the believer. We do not become different because we are better than anyone else, we become different because of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, which is made possible by the work of Christ. Therefore, I must understand that the power to live the Christian life is not in me, personally, but in learning to walk in the Spirit of God. Like a child has to learn to use the muscles and skeleton that they are born with, we as believers need to learn to use the spiritual “muscles and skeleton” that we possess because of the presence of the Holy Spirit. How is that done? You must spend time in the Word of God and begin to apply the principles outlined to become conformed into the image of … READ MORE
