Protecting our mind and emotions – 1 Peter 1:13

Have you ever noticed a catcher’s attire? He has a mask, chest protector, shin guards, and a glove. He wears all that because he has to catch a 90+ mile and hour pitch from a guy that is less 60 feet 6 inches away, and a person with a bat in front of him! What would you think of a person who went behind home plate stood there without any protection at all and tried to catch a pitch? We might think that he is either “a few bricks short a load,” or that “his elevator did not go to the top floor”. Yet there are many Christians today, who are going into a far worse situation than this; without any protection they face a spiritual attack on their mind and emotions! Many people have never considered how they may be tempted, and therefore, have no idea how to handle any temptation that comes into their life. We need to view spiritual warfare as it is presented in the Bible, where the devil is fought with the weapons of prayer, preaching, witness, godly living, obedience to Scripture and faith in the promises of God’s word. Comfort comes from Trusting Christ’s Person – John 14:7-11

The Lord’s statement in John 14:7-11 was nothing less than a claim to full deity and equality with the Father. He is the way to God (v6) because He is God. He is not merely a manifestation of God, He is God manifested, and that truth (a constant theme throughout John’s gospel), is the watershed that divides true from false views of Christ. Many throughout history and today have regarded Jesus as nothing more than a good man, and an exemplary, virtuous moral or religious teacher. But that is impossible! No one who claimed to be God incarnate, if his claims were false, could be a good man. If Jesus knew His claim was false, He would be a liar, and if He sincerely believed it was true when it was not, He would be a lunatic. But the evidence conclusively shows that Christ was neither a liar nor insane. Rather He was God, exactly as He claimed to be. What does that mean for us?
