What are we worshipping – 1 John 2:15

by Jim Jamison

Why are we so tied to this world? Why is it that we live for vacation, and for new stuff? Why do we make things important that eventually will become obsolete? Romans 1:25 says, “[they] changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator …” We struggle because sin has such a hold on us and this world. We exalt what is temporary and neglect the things that are eternal. In our society, pleasure is more important than people. It leads us to a question to ponder this morning. What are we living for? 1 John 2:15 says, “Do not love the world or the things in the world, if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” It is not a sin to enjoy a vacation or a new “toy” but it is a sin when that becomes the thing that we are living for. We are commissioned by God to Love Him, and love others, that is truly the only way that we find satisfaction and contentment in our lives. What are you living for?… READ MORE

Are you living for today? – 2 Corinthians 4:18

by Jim Jamison

Sin has caused a major struggle in our lives. People today attempt to lie for now and not the promise to come. 2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us that, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” In other words, the things we think we have to have or do TODAY(!), are the very things that we cast away or regret tomorrow. When we live for only today, we find no pleasure or satisfaction. When we live for what is to come, through the work of Jesus Christ, we find satisfaction, and appreciation for what we find in our lives today. Only Christ can bring that purpose in our lives. May we choose to live for Him, and recognize that true peace comes through the promises that we obtain from His Word.… READ MORE

The splendor of creation – Romans 1:22-23

by Jim Jamison

What a wonder creation is, as it points to the reality of God, and His sovereign control over all things. Yet because of sin we do not see things as they were created, and our sin leads us to the wonder of creation in unholy ways. Romans 1;22-23 says, “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man – and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.” We end to worship creation as if it would bring us the answers to our problems. We think that the secret to happiness and contentment are the things we can gather from this life. The reality is that the only way to find that happiness and contentment is through a redemptive relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We can not fully appreciate what God has given to us, without a relationship with the God of that creation. May He open your eyes and heart to the reality of His splendor and majesty.… READ MORE
