The Picture of Manna – John 6

by Jim Jamison

Manna is a beautiful symbol of Jesus, come down from above. Jesus says in John 6:35 “I am the Bread of Life” Where God guides, He provides. Where He leads, He feeds! God didn’t bring the Israelites as far as He did to let to let them starve. He had a plan for Israel just as He does for us, and all we need to do is follow, recognizing hat He will provide for our daily needs as we follow Him. Whether that path leads over a mountain, or down a valley; through a sea, desert, wilderness, or whatever, He promises to meet the needs along the way if we will simply follow him. Jesus’ being the “Bread of Life” means that He provides for us life, strength, hope, and perspective. All that we need is wrapped up in this picture of Jesus being the “Bread of life” and it is illustrated perfectly by the picture of Manna in the Old Testament. God provided for Israel in according to their need, even though at times they complained and became dissatisfied. We must recognize that God is providing for us, even when we take it for granted, and even if we … READ MORE

Conviction: Peace or War? – 1 John 4:4

by Jim Jamison

As we consider the convicting work of he Holy Spirit there ae only two possible responses to that ministry: Repentance or rejection. From those who reject the Spirit’s conviction will come hostility to the followers of Christ. Their end is eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, according to 2 Thessalonians 1:9. Those who repent when the Sprit convicts them will spend eternity in the inexpressible glory and joy of heaven. Yet while they still face trials, they do not need to fear, because according to 1 John 4:4 “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” True peace within ourselves, comes through the witness of the indwelling Holy Spirit that we are right with God. Today, will you submit your will to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, and find that peace that passes all understanding?… READ MORE

Clothed in Rightousness – John 16:7-11

by Jim Jamison

John 16:7-11 reminds us that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The conviction of sin does not means sin specific (although He does that), in this context the reference is to the sin of refusing to believe in Jesus Christ as their savior. The sole issue that determines people’s eternal destiny is how they react to the Spirits convicting ministry concerning their own sin and the provision of forgiveness by grace through Jesus Christ. The third, Judgment, means hat the Holy Spirit convicts men of the reality of their own sinfulness and inability to turn from their sin. The sobering warning to those who embrace the world system is that since its ruler will not escape judgment, neither will they, unless they repent of their sin and turn to Christ (The glory is seen in that the Holy Spirit then enables people to turn from sin to Christ). And finally, number two, or righteousness. The righteousness here is that which belongs to Christ by nature as the holy Son of God. Not only does the Spirit convict unbelievers of their sin, but also of the necessity of having the perfect righteousness of Christ. Those who … READ MORE
