Living in Hope – Romans 8:26

by Jim Jamison

In Romans 8:26 we saw that the Spirit is making groanings for us, but what is He groaning for? He groans for our inability, in ourselves, to overcome the discouragement of our continual battle with this flesh. I seems that we get one thing under control and another pops us. We see in this passage, that the freedom that we have from discouragement is brought on by the ministry of the Spirit in uniting with our hearts and minds in understanding the struggle that we have with sin. It is that Spirit that enables us to overcome sin, and that Spirit that strengthens us in our battle with sin. It is that Spirit that relates our true heart attitude to God in our battle against our flesh. Be encouraged my friends, God looks at our heart, more than our actions. This is not an excuse live in sin, but gives us hope as we grow in our relationship with Christ.… READ MORE

The intercession of the Holy Spirit – Romans 8:26

by Jim Jamison

Romans 8:26 says, “For we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” This is a reminder that there are times that we are not even aware of our Spiritual need, much less how to best pray for them. What a comfort we can find in the reality that our spiritual security rests in the Lord’s faithfulness to us rather than in our vacillating commitment to Him. So the Spirit does not simply provide our security but is Himself our security. The result of all this is that we remain justified and righteous before God the Father because the Son and the Holy Spirit are our constant advocates and intercessors, representing us before Him. If it were not for the sustaining power of the Spirit within us and Christ’s continual mediation for us as High Priest (Hebrews 7:25-26), our remaining humanness would have immediately engulfed us again into sin the moment after we were justified. Today live in the comfort and confidence of the interceding work of the Holy Spirit in your life.… READ MORE

Victory over discouragment – Romans 8:18-27

by Jim Jamison

We need to understand that Christians, have great hoe, not only that their afflictions eventually will end, but that those afflictions actually will add to their eternal glory. As followers of Christ, our suffering comes from men, whereas our glory comes from God. Our suffering is earthly, whereas our glory is heavenly. Our suffering is short, whereas, our glory is forever. Romans 8:18-27 states that god cares, that God does have the power, but that God is letting all things move into corruptions be3cause He is working out an eternal purpose. Those who live only for this life cannot look forward to any resolution of wrongs or to do comfort for their souls, Their pain, loneliness, and afflictions serve no Divine purpose and bring no Divine reward. As a believer, it is important for us to remember in the midst of our struggle that there is a Divine purpose to our challenges. These things help us to hold up under duress.… READ MORE
